The Moon will be waxing from a shallow crescent at the first of the week to Gibbous by the end of the week.  Because it will set early in the evening at the first of the week, the Stargaze Rating for the first couple days in the week are good.  By mid week the moon will be very prominent in the sky, making it difficult to do much deep sky observing except in the early morning.

The Moongaze Rating is very good for the early evening and night as the terminator crosses from the eastern limb to the mid-western meridian.

With the Moon waning to New on Thursday, the Stargaze Rating should be excellent all night long.  The first part of the week the Moongaze Rating is going to be good in the early morning for viewing the western limb.  By the end of the week you will not be able to see much of the Moon.

The Moon will be waning from Gibbous (18-day moon) at the first of the week to a large crescent (24-day moon) by the end of the week.  Because it will rise very early in the morning, the Stargaze Rating for the week is excellent for the early evening and night.

The Moongaze Rating is very good for the early pre-sunrise hours as the terminator crosses toward the western limb.

With the First Quarter Moon occurring on Tuesday, the Moon will be setting a little later each evening and will be getting larger and brighter.  The stargazing will be best early in the week and later in the evening.  The Stargaze Rating for the week is fine, especially in the early morning.

Moongazers will enjoy watching the terminator move across the surface from the midline toward the western limb providing good crater relief.  The Moongaze rating is excellent for the week.

The Moon will be New on Tuesday so the Stargaze Rating is excellent for the whole week.  Moon enthusiasts can enjoy a waning crescent Moon early in the week and a waxing crescent Moon later in the week.  This will give them the opportunity to view the craters along each limb of the Moon as the terminator crosses them.

With the Moon waning from gibbous toward a large crescent phase the Stargaze Rating for the week is excellent.  This is because the Moon will not only be less bright each day but it will also rise in the east well after midnight making this next week a great week for early evening stargazing.

If you are a Moongazer you will need to view it in the early morning.  This is a good time for you to view the features across the midsection of the Moon as the terminator passes over them.  The low angle of the sunlight gives great relief which makes the features along the terminator pop out into view.  The Moongaze Rating for the week is good.

With the Moon Full occurring on Tuesday, July 7th, the night sky will be saturated with bright moonlight.  This is great for reading your newspaper at night in your front yard without a flashlight but it is terrible for looking at the stars.
The Stargaze Rating for the week is poor to fair.  The Moongaze Rating is fair but you will need a Moon filter to see many features.  Your best lunar observing will be later in the week when the terminator begins to sweep across the Moon.

This week we will observe the Moon wane from a 14-day Moon (Full Moon) to a 20-day Moon (early Gibbous).  Early in the week the Moon will rise in the east at 5:40 p.m. and transit about mid-night.  Because the Moon will rise about 51 minutes later each evening, by the end of the week, the Moon will rise at 11:27 p.m.  This means that the stargazing will be pretty bad during the first of the week but will become very good in the early evening by the end of the week.  The Stargaze Rating is Fair.

Moongazers will be able to see the Moon wane in the early evening but the best time to view it will be in the early morning when the Moon is well to the west.   The Moongaze Rating for the week is good.

This week we will observe the Moon wax from a 7-day Moon (First Quarter) to a 13-day Moon (almost Full).  The Moon will be up early each evening and grow progressively brighter as we get deeper into the week.

The Stargaze Rating for the week is Fair in the early evening and Good in the early morning.  The Moongaze Rating is excellent because the terminator passes over the western half of the Moon during the week, giving us a wonderful view of this region of the Moon’s surface.

The stargaze rating for deep sky objects this week is excellent to good.  The Moon will be waxing during the week from nearly New to first quarter on Friday.  That means the Moon will be up in the early evening skies.

The moongaze rating for the week is also very good for the week.  We can watch as the terminator moves from the eastern limb to the middle of the Moon, revealing the crater relief along the line of the shadow.
